Lhasa-Xining Train Services
Existing Daily Services
Several trains operate daily between Lhasa and Xining, offering passengers multiple options:
- Z8982: Departs Lhasa at 09:25, arriving in Xining at 06:25 the following day. Duration: approximately 21 hours.
- Z166: Departs Lhasa at 11:50, arriving in Xining at 09:15 the next day. Duration: approximately 21 hours and 25 minutes.
- Z266: Departs Lhasa at 12:40, arriving in Xining at 10:20 the next day. Duration: approximately 21 hours and 40 minutes.
- Z22: Departs Lhasa at 15:50, arriving in Xining at 13:10 the next day. Duration: approximately 21 hours and 20 minutes.
- Z224: Departs Lhasa at 19:00, arriving in Xining at 16:30 the next day. Duration: approximately 21 hours and 30 minutes.
Additional Temporary Services
To further enhance capacity, the following temporary trains have been scheduled:
- March 28, 2025: Train Z9814 will depart from Lhasa to Xining.
- March 30, 2025: Train Z9813 will operate from Xining to Lhasa.
- April 9 – June 22, 2025: Train Y972 will run from Lhasa to Xining.
- April 7 – June 20, 2025: Train Y971 will operate from Xining to Lhasa.
Lhasa-Shigatse Train Services
Existing Daily Services
The Lhasa-Shigatse route currently has two daily trains:
- C885: Departs Lhasa at 08:00, arriving in Shigatse at 10:21. Duration: approximately 2 hours and 21 minutes.
- C887: Departs Lhasa at 13:30, arriving in Shigatse at 15:50. Duration: approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Additional Temporary Services
To meet increased demand, the following temporary trains have been scheduled:
- April 8 and 9, 2025: Trains Z9805/6 and Z9807/8 will operate between Lhasa and Shigatse.
Ticketing and Reservations
With the introduction of additional services, passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Tickets can be purchased through official railway booking platforms and authorized agents. It is recommended to book in advance, especially during peak travel periods, to ensure availability.

- March 28, 2025: Additional Z9810 temporary passenger train from Nyingchi to Lhasa.

- April 8 & 9, 2025: Additional Z9805/6 and Z9807/8 temporary passenger trains between Lhasa and Shigatse.
New Flexible Multi-Trip Ticket Policy Effective March 15, 2025
Starting March 15, 2025, a revised multi-trip ticket policy will take effect, offering more flexibility and affordability for frequent travelers:
- In addition to the existing 20-trip/90-day option, a 10-trip/90-day option has been introduced.
- Ticket prices have been further optimized to provide greater savings.
- The maximum number of pending reservations per passenger has been significantly increased from 4 to 10, allowing more flexibility in trip planning.
